Youth & Teen Engagement
Youth and Teen Programming provides opportunities for students in PreK through 12th grade to increase their connection to the temple and Baltimore Jewish community through exciting and captivating activities that help develop a stronger Jewish identity, a sense of pride in their heritage, increase leadership skills, and foster long-lasting friendships.
At HSOSC, we strive to incorporate new and refreshing programming, Jewish learning concepts and traditions (including the celebration of Jewish holidays), the importance of social action, and plain old fun into our engagement with one another.
Join in our Youth and Teen Programming for the chance to get to know your peers better, build common ground through shared experiences, and feel empowered to make a difference in the world.
Our Madrichim Program
We are so excited to announce that this year’s program will include three different options:
Option 1 — Conduct a Classroom Madrichim that are selected to be a part of the “Conduct a Classroom” program will work closely with a religious school teacher to help teach lessons, create and implement activities/games for students, and assist with other classroom needs that may arise. At this point in time, our plan is to run religious school classes in person. Madrichim that apply for this position must display confidence, work well with children, and have strong planning and organizational skills such as the ability to create games/interactive activities, step up when needed, and also be familiar with basic technology, including how to run a Zoom (if necessary), screenshare, and use other online applications, etc.
This year, "Conduct a Classroom" Madrichim will also help with lunch and after-school programming a few times throughout the year. This will help build relationships between Madrichim and their students, and encourage a love of Judaism and engagement in and out of the classroom!
Option 3 — Teens for TOPAZ: Social Action
If you are passionate about helping others in the community and want to get more involved with social action at the temple, we would love to have you! Help run some of this year’s community service initiatives, including a fun trip to a toy store to help students purchase gifts to donate to children in need, Mishloach Manot making for Purim, Weekend Backpacks, Bunches of Lunches, in-school social action projects during religious school with different classrooms, and the opportunity to go out into the community on your own to volunteer at organizations of your choosing. This is the perfect way to make a big difference with less of a time commitment.
