Scouting at Har Sinai – Oheb Shalom Congregation

Scouting at Har Sinai – Oheb Shalom Congregation has a long tradition that began over 100 years ago. Over a thousand children have participated in different programs throughout those years at HSOSC.

Our congregation holds four charters with the Boy Scouts of America:

  • A Cub Scout Pack for boys and girls between kindergarten and fifth grade
  • A Scout BSA (formerly known as Boy Scouts) Troop for boys from sixth grade to the age of 18
  • A Scout BSA Troop for girls from the sixth grade to the age of 18
  • A Venture Crew for boys and girls from ages of 14 to 21.

All of our units are open to all youth.  All races, religions, and nationalities are welcome.

Cub Scout Pack 435 provides programs for elementary school children that enrich their lives.  Interesting projects and field trips stimulate their young minds and teach them skills that they can build upon as they get older.  This unit meets twice a month.

All of our units are recognized by the Baltimore Area Council, Jewish Committee on Scouting, and the Boy Scouts of America as quality units and are listed in the “green” category.  All of our leaders have passed national background checks. They have been properly trained and many have continued to achieve advanced educational training in their area of interest in the scouting movement.  This means that the units are at the top of their game and are moving forward in a positive direction.

Pack 435, Troop 97 Boys, Troop 97 Girls, and Crew 97 provides many services to assist HSOSC.  They help collect food during their annual food drive, provide a campfire for our High Holy Day season, and assist with the Purim Carnival. They also provide community service including Adopt-A-Highway that keeps Brooks Robinson Drive clean, collect food for those less fortunate, do community service work for area elementary schools, and perform many community projects as part of the Eagle requirements.

Har Sinai – Oheb Shalom Congregation, along with a long list of services, provides these units with a clean and safe environment for their weekly meetings and provides a secure place to keep their camping and other equipment. This is a wonderful relationship that has been recognized at the highest level in the scouting movement.
