Rosh Hashanah Prompts:

Rosh Hashanah signifies the beginning of the Jewish New Year. There are many traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation in the celebration of this special time.

One of these customs takes place at the Rosh Hashanah meal: the dipping of the apples in honey.
This activity symbolizes one’s hopes that the next twelve months will be filled with blessings and abundance.

  • Let us spend some quiet time acknowledging the “sweet” moments we received from the past year.
  • Let us reflect on the many ways we made a “sweet” positive difference in the lives of others.
  • Let us pray together: “May it be Your will our Eternal God, that this be a good and sweet year for everyone.”

Yom Kippur Prompts:

In the beginning of the Days of Awe, we are granted the opportunity to reflect on the “sweetness” we received during the past year.

At this special moment in time, we are also given the chance to look back when we were less than who we really are-when we had not used our words and actions to be our best.

  • Let us take this occasion to seek forgiveness during the times when we had fallen short.
  • Let us recall a time when we wished we had acted or spoken differently.
  • What actions or words did we wish we had chosen instead?
  • Is there a way to express ”I am sorry “ to those who we may have offended.

May we listen to the still small voice inside us and find the time and ways to make amends.
