It Took a Woman to… ($48 temple members/$60 non-members)
Thursdays, December 9, 16, 23 and 30 (10:30 a.m.-noon)

Before the 1970s, the topic of women in history was largely missing from the general public consciousness. If you look at the list below, you’re amazed that this list is comprised of inventions that we all use in our everyday lives. Yet, the inventors are mostly unknown, and that is a sad commentary on our gender history. Learn about these brilliant and fascinating women. They had to overcome huge obstacles, not just their gender, but their race, lack of money, lack of education, their personal lives and other stumbling blocks. What is even more interesting is that many of these inventions were made well over 100 years ago, and in some cases 200 years ago. We’re all familiar with the names of Bell, Edison, Ford and Franklin; however, we’ll come to admire these inventors because “IT TOOK A WOMAN TO…” invent these and many more:

Facilitator: Barbara Blumberg received a BS from Towson University. She has taught in many settings with youth and adults including the Baltimore City School System, Beth Tfiloh Community Day School secular division, CCBC Owings Mills and Hunt Valley, The Meyerberg Center, The Renaissance Academy of Florida Gulf State University, Osher at Towson University, Howard County Community Center, “Food for Thought”, SPICE at HS-OSC, Oasis at Montgomery Mall, Friends of the Pikesville Library, North Oaks, Beth El Synagogue and The Lecture Group.

Registration: Reservations may be made via email to sboxerbell@gmail.com or by phone to Sherri Bell, SPICE Chair at 410-833-2409. If you are a temple member, payment may be made by requesting to have your account billed. Other accepted methods of payment include credit card, cash paid in person at class or a check made out to HSOSC, with SPICE and the course name in the check memo, mailed to 1 Clifton Court, Pikesville, MD 21208.

Registration Policies:

  • All SPICE courses must be registered for and paid for in their entirety by the first session. Due to a new MD sales tax regulation, we are now required to charge 6% sales tax on all courses delivered electronically.
  • All SPICE courses for January-June 2021 will be presented on Zoom.
  • SPICE fees are per head, not per household, with a 50% off fee for second registrants within the same household.
  • A minimum of 15 enrollees per class is required.
