Learn about their lives, the different ways they carried out their duties, how they espoused their specific causes, how they handled many of their roles as wife, mother, ambassador, hostess, manager, and helpmate to their husbands as well as their contributions to the impacts and influence of their husband’s presidency over the years. This class will begin at the very beginning with new updated information and deep dives into the profiles of both Martha Washington and Abigail Adams. This will be an ongoing course each semester with a look at two more First Ladies each time.

Facilitator: Patrick Heline is a History and Music History teacher at the Community College of Baltimore County and has been teaching in the Seniors program for 10 years, since 2012. Over the years, he has taught various courses in US and music history such as Presidential Scandals, First Ladies, US Presidential Losers, decade courses (1920s, 1930s, etc…), Rock N Roll History, and more. He received his Associates Degree in Secondary Education and his Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He is currently working on his Master’s Degree. Students seem to enjoy his classes because of his ability to teach the history and backgrounds of these historical figures as more of telling a story that continues on.
